Concrete Canoe Team Places First at Nationals! 

Congratulations to CEE's Concrete Canoe Team for placing first of 22 teams at the ASCE's 22nd national competition held at the University of Alabama at Huntsville!

CEE's canoe, "Bear Area," took first place in Design Report, first in Oral Presentation, third in Final Product, and placed in the top ten in all of the races. CEE bested a field which included 4 previous US, and 2 Canadian, national champions. The last time CEE placed first was in 1992.

CEE Steel Bridge Team Places Fifth at Nationals!

Congratulations to CEE's Steel Bridge Team for placing fifth among 46 teams in a highly competitive national division held at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada!

Berkeley was the only team to consistently place in the top 5 in the various categories. RadiCAL was an outstanding achievement by CEE students, faculty, and staff, who devoted hours of meaningful hard work, teamwork, leadership, and skills, into building this year's steel bridge. Go RadiCAL!

National Competitions 2008 E-mail

Cal Concrete Canoe Places Second Overall at Nationals
The cal concrete canoe team took place place overall in the 2008 concrete canoe nationals competition at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montreal, Canada . We offer our congratulations to the University of Nevada at Reno for their first ever first place finish and everyone else who has done such a great job on their canoes this year!

UC Berkeley Steel Bridge Continues to Amaze!
The cal steel bridge team took first place overall in the 2008 steel bridge nationals competition at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. The team scored first in the lightness category and efficiency category. They scored second in the construction speed category and economy category. The University of Florida and UC Davis took second and third places respectively.

This comes at the end of a sensational year for the team. The bridge, "Calatrava," took the 2008 midpac competition by storm, winning first place in all but the aesthetics category.

2008 Midpac Conference Results
Congratulations to Our Competition Teams


The UC Berkeley Steel Bridge team has blown away the competition. They scored first in efficiency, economy, stiffness, construction speed, lightness and a first place overall.

Congratulations Steel bridge for being the unquestionable winners of the 2008 Midpac Conference!


Concrete canoe got first in overall races, a very well deserved first in presentation, second on the paper design, and a third in the final product. The competition was very close with UNR pulling ahead by a mere 1.6 points.

Cal ended up with a the second place
overall in concrete canoe.


Our enviornmental team won the environmental
competiton, placing first overall!
